Hi,

My computer was installed with WindowsXP Professional. For some reason,
today I installed Windows 2000 Professional with this computer. The 2 OS
were both installed on disk C.

Now problem is: whenever I boot my computer, if I choose Windows 2000
Professional it runs smoothly; if I choose WindowsXP the monitor becomes
black, however both computer and monitor signal lights are on.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bill,

You may have overwrote some system files with older versions, I would =
suggest first trying a repair installation to see if it recognizes the =
old installation. Follow these steps to do a repair install which should =
preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM =
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to =
start from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you =
want to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it =
handy before you begin.

If it does not recognize the old installation, then you may wind up =
needing to format and clean install, or upgrade the Win2K installation.

How you could "accidentally" do this is beyond me, there had to have =
been some warnings <g>.

From what I read in the original post, he seemed to have installed win2k and
xp on C: - the only and same partition.

If you have not partitioned your C:, you have to start from scratch in order
to enable dual systems in your pc. fdisk-win2k (first) and xp.

Rick's suggestion will work if you have win2k and xp in 2 different
partitions.
