I cannot shutdown my computer through normal channels. I
have to go to the switch users screen and turn off there.
When it shuts down it says other people are using this
computer shutting down now will cause them to loose
information. I unplugged the internet connection and get
the same error messege.

You get this warning with file sharing enable, or when somebody Remote
Desktop into your system.

Use Explorer, if you see a folder with a hand under it, this is file
sharing, right click the folder got Properties, and disable it.

Thanks

When you switch users you are not logged off.
Tell the other person when he/she is done. Log off.
Note if everyone is done. You can goahead and shutdown the computer.
It wont hurt, when you get that message.

Disclaimer
My advice is as-is. It could trash your system.

That message is normal if you have multiple profiles and at least one
other is open.
There is normally no problem shutting down unless the other user has
an application open with data that may be lost.
This only applies to recently typed and unsaved data.

I just go ahead and shutdown, however I know what the other profiles
were up to.
