XP Home : delay to establish DSL connection at startup?

Hello,

I've been using my XP Home (OEM) for over a week now.
(Still with a VERY clean installation... ;) )

I noticed that if I click my icon to connect to my ISP
(through DSL ethernet modem) at startup, right after
the hourglass next to the pointer disappear (and all
icons are present in "system tray"), it takes over an
extra minute for the "connecting to..." dialog to
appear.

A minute is a long time on a high-end system...

I'm curious to know what's happening during that time?

Does XP keep loading "extra modules" after the desktop
is initially displayed?

Note that if I disconnect and reconnect later, it then
happens very quickly.
