I have heard that when upgrading to Windows XP, my older
Windows 98 programs will not function properly.
Is this True??

It is technically possible that certain (usually very old) programs may no
longer be compatible with Windows XP.
To help you - download and run the Upgrade Advisor

Although there may be a very occasional Windows 98-era program
that won't work properly under Windows XP, the vast majority work
just as they did before. I've personally not run into a single
Windows 98-era program that didn't work under XP.

So by and large, it's *not* true.

Everything works (at least all the millions of things that I've installed
and ran on several winXP machines worked), only prob is that with some (and
I do mean, the rare ocasion) programs or games, you will need to right-click
its icon/shortcut/exe and turn on a new feature: Compatibility Mode. That
will allow you to set windows to simulate win95/98/me/2000 for that
particular program; meaning that windows will pretend to be another windows
and so the program should work.
Most of the stuff thats not directly compatible are windows 95 games anyway.

I do recomend you upgrade. Unless you have absolutelly no reason to, and use
some unusual program on your pc for your job.
If you do want to upgrade because of all the great new features, and system
stability and speed, than yeh get winXP.
But don't really UPGRADE. Backup your stuff, format and install winXP,
because its a lot more reliable and stable.

Good luck =D

Many of your device drivers will need to be replace. Windows XP may do that
automatically for some devices (e.g. mouse).

For programs that won't run properly in XP you can use the "compatibility
mode" feature of Windows XP. Right click on the icon that starts the program
and select "properties". When the dialog page appears, select the
"Compatibility" tab page and change the settings as needed (e.g. Run this
program in compatibility mode for Windows98/Windows Me") and click OK.
