DVD hook up to sound card?? with xp

I just installed a DVD into my tower. The 2 pin mpc was not in the box :(
When I went to but one the guy told me behind the counter that if a was
running XP the digital signal was running through my IDE cable.

I can't find anything on it, is this true?

Yes, it's true. To check that your drive is enabled for digital audio:
Open Control Panel, click on Sounds and Audio Devices, click Hardware Tab,
highlight the desired drive, click Properties box, click the Properties Tab,
see that the box "Enable Digital Audio...." is checked.
