I can not recceive mail.
The error message reads:
The connection to the server has failed. Account:
'mail.optonline.net', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3,
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0E.
I tried following the 'work Around' suggested by Microsoft,
but I don't know what an "exchange Server" is or where to
find it. (Windows search turned up nothing)
I use O.E. in Widows XP, home ed. My browser is Internet
Explorer.
Many Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,
You will get this message if port 110 is blocked somewhere between you and
the mail server. The port could be blocked on the mail server itself, or on
a hardware router or firewall if you have one, or on any firewall software
you may have installed. Did anything change before this started happening?

No Tim, All I recall is a friend saying she couldn't get an
e mail through to me this morning. At times I DO need to
disble my pcCillon's pop block to get my mail through to
me. That's happened once.
Thanks, Ron

Just a shot. If you're using e-mail scanning in your anti-virus, turn it off
and see if that makes a difference. Causes quite a few error messages and it
doesn't give you any added protection.

I'm not too familiar with this, but go to Help & Support. Type in "Location
of exchange server". Click on the items found at the bottom of the box, and
it was either the third or fourth item that gave info on that.

Bruce,
I wasn't able to locate info on htis 'exchange server',
but I just got my e mail back. I achieved this by
rebooting. As soon as Outlook Express re-opened I saw all
my messages downloaded. Do you have any idea why this
worked? If not I'll repost my slightly altered question
in the newsgroup again.

Ron:
Might want to post here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlooke xpress
Should get some good advice from some talented MS-MVP.
Are you posting thru the web, or OE? If it's the web, you might want to set
up a OE based NG. I realize you might be doing that already but unable with
the current problem.
To set up a NG with OE:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2fdirectory%2fworldwide%2fen-gb%2fnewsout.asp
Or this Link:
http://home.earthlink.net/~fightingfinn/nntp_posting.html
Good luck,
Bruce

Once you set up the NG it is easy to keep track of your responses. You can
use Watch/Ignore and keep your post at the top of the list. You wont regret
it.
