View Full Version : Loading "Personal Settings" Very Slowly

Recently, our computer (which runs Windows XP) takes
forever to get from the "Welcome" screen to the desktop
display. The welcome screen says that it is "Loading
Personal Preferences" during this lag. It takes about 80-
90 seconds before the desktop is displayed. About this
same time, I started getting a lot of pop up ads randomly
displayed on the computer. Anyone have any idea what is
going on? If you have some ideas, what do I try to
resolve the problem? Thanks for any help that you can
give me.

Hi Dan,

Check your settings here (Start/Run/Regedit) and verify that explorer.exe is
the only thing listed for Shell:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

I checked my shell, and Explorer.exe is the only thing listed. I also tried running MSconfig and disabling everything (no help) and booting in safe mode. I also did a disk cleanup and a defrag. The behavior still exhibits itself in all cases. Any other
suggestions?

Hard to say.....many have relied on Bootvis, however many lean do not. It
won't cause harm.

BootVis - Performance Trace Visualization Tool (Line 113)

Startup Tracker - Send me the logfile via email
