I am trying to arrange my desktop icons, including
getting rid of some of the icons. The only way I could
move them was to copy them so now I have two of some
icons, but if I try to delete them it says that I am
deleting the entire program. Can someone please help
me.

Are you sure it says you are deleting the program? Read the message
carefully. XP will tell you that you are deleting a shortcut but doing so
will not uninstall the program.

The only other solution is that you are deleting EXE files or that you
installed programs to your desktop.

What you say is very strange, from two standpoints:

1. Why couldn't you move them? What happened when you tried?
Copying shouldn't be necessary.

2. Desktop icons are normally shortcuts, but they don't have to
be. They can represent actual programs themselves. Do these icons
have a little curved arrow in their lower left corners
(indicating that they're shortcuts)?

If they have the arrows, you seem to have misread the message
that you describe as warning you about deleting the entire
program. Try again, and read the message carefully. If it's not
clear, post the text of the message here, verbatim, for
clarification.

If they don't have the arrows (but other icons do), they are
apparently actual program files. How did these icons get to your
desktop? Can you describe exactly what you did to put them there?
I'm reluctant to try to give any advice until I better understand
what your situation is.
