I know technically this isnt xp but I couldnt think of anywhere else to post
it.
How do you change the default search engine when you just type something in
the address bar and press enter?
It used to be the microsoft engine but something has changed it to internet
optimizer and I want to change it back.
I also used to be able to press ctrl and enter in the address bar to auto
add www. and .com but thats stopped working as well.

If the search engine changed, you might need to check your computer for spyware. Many have recommended Ad-Aware by Lavasoft, Spybot Seek and Destroy, etc.

Topper, I use google as my search default and all I did was add this
216.239.37.99 www.google.com to my hosts file in
Windows\system32\drivers\etc. All I have to do is type a word in the
address window, hit enter and it will automatically bring up a google search
of that word. You could substitute any search engine you want, just ping
the site to get the ip address. It does take a reboot after making any
changes to the hosts file.
