View Full Version : (kelly) start menu folders again & custom places bar
David ...............................M............
January 28th 04, 12:05 AM
I modified my start menu under Windows XP using the reg
files from Kelly's corner. This worked great and I added
menus for office and adobe folders in place of my music
and my pictures.
I have noticed a side effect of this in that when I use
save file the custom places bar has now also got the
office and adobe folders instead of my music & my
pictures. I use the latter two a lot when saving files.
Have a reached the limitation of XP? I would like to add
two new folder menus to my start menu and keep my
pictures and my music in the custom places bar.
Is this possible or will I have to compromise on this?
Many thanks
David

Hi David,
You can customize the places bar and add any places you want by using
TweakUI. Under TweakUI, navigate to Common dialogs >> Places Bar and you can
add custom places.
TweakUI can be downloaded from:

Hi David,
As Anando, suggested:
For Pro:
Go to Start/Run and type in: gpedit.msc then navigate to:
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/ Windows
Explorer/Common Open File Dialog/Items Displayed in Places Bar.
Choose Enabled then paste or type the link to the folders that you want
listed.
Or...
Add Folders to the "Save As" Dialog (Places Bar) Line 118
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Or use TweakUI/Common Dialogs
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Tip:
To hide the Common Places Bar: For Pro go to Start/Run and type in:
gpedit.msc. User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows
Components/Windows Explorer/Common Open Places/Hide the common dialog places
bar.
Note: To see the difference between the views, open Notepad and choose
File/Open before and after applying Enabled.

Thanks Kelly and Anando
I meant to say have my cake and eat it, but I guess you
had worked that out!
I'll try using the group edit route first, if I get lost
I'll use Tweak UI.
