View Full Version : Displaying text on desktop background

Hiya guys, was wondering if you could help me on this one.
I'm wanting to see if you can setup Win2000 and WinXP to display the users
computer name on the background. Kinda like in the same way that windows
displays "Safe Mode" in the four corners when you go into safe mode, though
only really want it in one corner (ideally top right).
I remember in win9x you used to be able to do some reg edit which displayed
the version number in the same kind of way.
Any help in this would be great as I don't seem to be able to find anything
Cheers

Show User and Computer Name on Desktop (Windows NT/2000/XP)
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/370/
This tweak will rename "My Computer" to "Username on Computername" making it
simple to determine which computer you are logged on to and which username you
are logged on as.
Show Windows Version on Desktop (All Windows)
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/539/
Early versions of Windows showed the version number on the desktop, this feature
was removed in the released version. This tweak can be used to enable the
feature and allow you to quickly locate which version of Windows is running.
Perhaps one of these is what you're looking for.

Thanks for that, however its not quite what I want.
I actually use the "My Computer tweak" at the moment. However I want to get
rid of that and display the computer name in the same way that the version
tweak displays the version number.
I just want to be able to set it up so that the computer name (and maybe
username) are displayed on the background in the same way that "safe mode"
is, apart from ideally only in one corner.
Thanks for your help anyway though

Can you just make the screen the way you want and then have it come up as a
background screen. One for each user when they log in.
