save password box checked but not saved

Whenever I check the save password box it never saves the
password. Is there a setting in XP I've missed?

You have not mentioned for what you are trying to save
the passwords, there are numerous occassions on which a
password is requried.

The most recent concern is with MS Outlook 2002 (Office
XP). But it happens with all applications where there is
an opportunity to save passwords - i.e., check the box.
This particular computer also does not "auto-fill" forms,
and I'm wondering if this password problem has something
to do with that????? Thanks for the assistence.
