restore media player

I have lost the sound and stereo picture on my media
player regarding music downloaded to my music folder, and
do not know how to restore it. Actually my grandson was
the culprit. We have not been able find the necessary
help through the help tools. Sorry I am not that literate
when it comes to computers and have only managed to
FINALLY down load my favourite music etc; and I am
totally lost at the moment. I would be sooo!! grateful if
someone out there is able to assist.
