Maybe someone else has had similar problems. I'm running
Windows XP Pro on a new Gateway machine. There are four
users accounts on the machine (myself as administrator
and three other family members with limited privileges).
Just recently the users with limited priveleges found
they couldn't open an IE6 browser window. Trying to do so
would generate a Microsoft error reporting window. The
quick, short and easy workaround was to grant everybody
administrator privileges from my account... not exactly
the thing I wanted to do. I think this might have occured
after installing a Windows XP update but can't be sure.
Anybody else have this issue and if so... any better fix
for the bug? Thanks. Tried to contact Gateway but they
gave a lame excuse that maybe it was another application
generating the issue..."sorry we can't help with software
that we didn't install." Also, can't find a way to email
or contact anybody at Microsoft... since Windows XP came
installed on the machine (OEM) they ping pong you back to
the manufacturer of the PC. HELP!!!

Try adding your family to the Power Users group rather than limited users.
This will increase their rights, but not anything like an administrator.
To do this right click on my computer, select manage, expand 'local users
and groups', then click on the users folder. Double click on the user you
want to change, click on the 'member of' tab, select the 'users' member,
then click remove. Now click the add button, then advanced button, then the
find now button. You will see various groups appear. Select the Power users
group then click Ok then OK. You will now see they are a member of the power
users group. Ok that, then your done!
Hope this helps.
