I know this sounds expensive but try replacng the
graphics card my old win 95 system used to freeze up for
no reason I found out after a while the graphics card was
faulty put a new one in and had no trouble after!

Same thing happened to me. When I installed the critical updates the
computer keeps freezing. I reinstalled windows and everything went fine, but
when I reinstalled the critical updates, it began to freeze again. I didn't
find a solution yet.

One thing to note is that when installing updates you are REALLY
UPGRADING YOUR OS.

So, in the future disable all your running apps before you upgrade next
time.
