View Full Version : Outlook Express - Outbox Problem

I'm using XP with Outlook Express 6 for email. I've
downloaded all service packs and critical updates. I
also use McAfee Viruscan and have downloaded the latest
virus definitions. A complete scan of the C drive shows
no viruses. I have a problem with my Outbox - I'm not
able to delete any of the files in my Outbox and
everytime I get email it resends everything in the
Outbox. I've tried hilighting and right mouse clicking
to delete, clicking on the red "X" to delete, as well as
dragging to the delete folder, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Close OE. In Windows Explorer, find and delete Outbox.dbx in your
Identity's store (http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/store.htm).

Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of all
OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. (And I'd
get rid of VirusScan "toot sweet". McAfee and OE are bitter enemies IMHO.)
