Have you checked this?
Start>Right click on My
Computer>properties>Advanced>startup and
recovery>settings>under system failure> check whwther
Automatically Restart box has been checked or not.

I'm interested in this - is this a Home peculiarity? When I run
Checkdisk I just manually close the window, there's no need to
"restart".
