Win 98 and Outlook Express 6.00. How do I turn off the sounds in Outlook
Express? I could not find the switch anywhere.

In the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds tab, scroll through the list
and remove the sounds you don't want.

Unfortunately, Outlook Express is not listed there with other programs.
Thanks for trying. Other Suggestions.

As far as my setup goes the only sound I've ever noticed is the 'new
message' sound.
You can quiet that by opening the program, click 'tools', select 'options'
and click on the general tab and
uncheck it.
Hope this helps

Ron,
Click start > control panel > sounds and audio devices, then click the
sounds tab.
You can either select 'windows default' sound scheme or 'no sounds' at all
in the drop down menu.
Or create and modify a new scheme. Click 'apply' if you make changes and
'ok' to exit .
But frankly, who's got the time?
Hope this helps

Well Chek, I gots the time but not the know how. The only sound event I
found here relating to Outlook Express is 'New Mail Notification'. I set
this to 'none'. However, this does not address the problem stated below.
Where is the switch to stop the sound in Outlook Express when deleting
messages. I get @ 150 emails a day and do a lot of deleting. The sound gets
tiresome.

Ron,
Perhaps there is a tweak somewhere for that specific sound (logic tells us
there must be a command that triggers the sound sample. In there somewhere),
but until it turns up, I believe you may have to select the 'no sounds'
option on that sounds panel. Don't forget to click 'apply'.
Most people I've done that for are relieved, but personally I find the whole
mutimedia thing useful at times.
Hope this helps
