updated patch on windows and now it wont boot

I installed the patch for the recent virus and rebooted
my computer. Now i get an error message that reads, "Can
Not find file c:\windows\system32\config\system. File may
be missing or corrupt". I have checked using the repair
option with my xp cd and the file is there. How can I
fix this error, and what is this all about?????

You may have to re-apply the patch afterwards.
