View Full Version : XP Log-in Screen

I am the sole user of my Dell Dimension which operates on Windows XP Home
edition.
Until very recently, I was not asked to select a user when booting or after
being in stand-by mode. Now, a screen appears asking me to click on user
name in order to log on. Usually, my own name is the only choice, but I
have seen screens that had my name and a user called NET.???? (I don't
recall what followed NET., - it may have been NET.Messenger which I've never
used, don't need, don't want, and afraid to delete because I have had so
many problems
every time that I have tried to make ANY change in XP.
This is no big deal, but it's just an extra step in starting my computer
after it has been shut down or in stand-by mode.
I'm use cable Internet access, and therefore I'm always on line.
The only change that I think was possible which may coincide with the new
user-screen is some automatic downloads of critical updates from MS.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Go Start|Run type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and hit
Enter. Highlight your User name in the list and uncheck the box which states
"Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Now your
computer should boot straight into Windows as it did before the .NET update
:-)

Thanks, I'll give it a try - sounds logical.
