internet explorer with xp home

[Mirage 2000]

I have just installed xp home on my pc. When i access the internet i do not get the symbol of the two computers linked together two show me that i am connected. you know the one that comes up in the same area as the clock on the task bar, that you click on
to show you your connection speed etc and that gives you the disconnect option. Please someone tell me how to activate this, many thanks.

Hit the Start button> Control Panel> Network Connections> Right click the
dial up connection> Select properties from the context menu. Bottom left,
tick box that says show icon in the notification area.
