A laptop was infected with the blaster worm virus last
year. The virus was wiped but other problems persisted.
This meant having to re-install parts of the system.
However, having done this, although everything works
fine, standby/hibernate is now 'grayed' when looking at
the shut down options and can no longer be selected. Can
I get these functions back?

Laptop computers require specialized hardware drivers.
After repairing Windows XP, visit the support website of
the manufacturer of your laptop and download all the Windows
XP drivers designed to work with your specific laptop model,
especially the video adapter drivers.
