Black Screen on startup

Having a problem with an Inspiron 4100 laptop running MS
XP Pro. It goes through the initial startup with the
green bar and when it gets past that screen the monitor
goes blank. While in this mode you could hear the rest of
the program loading up but the screen visual is gone. I
even tried connecting to an external monitor with the same
results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

At startup, press F8 and select Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode... reinstall
your graphics drivers.
