View Full Version : MSN 6.1 Integration with Outlook Express 6.0 - possible?

I have a dilemma: I love the newer functions of MSN
Messenger 6.1 but at the same time I find the way that
Windows Messenger 4.7 integrates its contact list into
the Outlook Express Contact Pane really useful,
especially as my friends change their names so often!
Is there a way, therefore, to integrate my MSN 6.1
contact list into Outlook Express? I'm an experienced
user and don't mind a bit of registry hacking :)
Any help is much appreciated.
Chris.

Greetings Chris,
Unfortunately no, MSN Messenger 6.x won't integrate with Outlook Express in Windows XP.

Hi Jonathan
Are you aware of any plans for MS to re-implement this function? I cannot
believe MS decided to remove this with MSN Messenger 6.
Cheers

Hey Rich,
I've got a feeling they have. You no longer get the
integration function even with Windows Messenger 5.0 -
I'm having to use Windows Messenger 4.7 to make OE
integrate with Messenger. Now that there's no chance of
doing it with MSN messenger I guess we may have to wait
till the next reincarnation of Windows.
I had hoped that a registry/ini tweak would get around
the problem with MSN 6.1 but it appears not.
Rgds

Hi Chris
Thanks for your reply.
When I said "I cant believe MS..." I meant, I know they have done it but
cant believe they have! :-) Sorry, I should have worded it better :-)
I have got a suspicion they wont re-enable it again :-( I think this is a
major mistake - they want you to use MSN Messenger, they want you to use
Outlook Express (rather than a 3rd party app anyway) yet they take away
integration that they have been "striving" for for years.
Oh well...
Cheers
