View Full Version : Outlook Express 6 Spell check not working

January 30th 04, 04:01 AM
I have Windows XP Home edition and my Outlook Express 6.0
won't perform the spellcheck. I understand it's a
Microsoft recognized compatability problem between these
two programs.

Does anyone have a solution?

Guidance appreciated.

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. There are downloads available.
Get a free spell check at either site below.

Your assessment of Windows XP and Outlook Express 6.0
compatibility is incorrect.

In order to enable Spell Check in Outlook Express, you must first
install a version of Microsoft Works, Word or Office.

No, that's not at all the problem. Neither Windows XP, nor any
other version of Windows, has ever come with a Spell Checking
facility. Outlook Express uses the spell checker that comes with
Microsoft Word, (or another Microsoft Office program) if you have
it installed.

If you don't have Word or Office installed, you probably don't
have a spell checker. However there are several downloadable
freeware/shareware alternative spell checkers that work with
Outlook Express and Outlook. Since I have no personal experience
with any of these, I'll let someone else recommend one.

On the other hand, if a Microsoft Office component *is*
installed, try the instructions at
