3rd new computer running XP with no troubles- can't get
my first batch of Windows updates on this one. I get
there, scan for updates, need 26 criticals, 2 drivers,
etc, etc, agree to the EULA, the download box comes up,
but none of the updates get past one little box in
the "lineup". I then get a list of failed downloads (all
of them) with no error number, just a suggestion to try
again. I'v been trying for days now. With the MSBlaster
out there, I'm a little nervous (Norton's watching my
back - I hope). Please help!!

You need one update to protect you from MSBlaster. Microsoft has posted a
web page that explains how to protect your system here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp
For the other updates, don't try to download everything at once. Suggest
downloading and installing one at a time. Two at the most.

Lisa,
I am having the same problem.....I re-installed the OS
and its still doing it. It doesn't make a difference
whether you download 1 or 26 updates. I've been
downloading all of them at once for 2 years without a
problem........LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND THE SOLUTION,
Good Luck,
Brent

HERE IS THE FIX>
Try this:
Find the file called hosts (In XP Pro its located at
c:\windows\system32\drivers). Open it up in Notepad and
add this
line:
208.172.32.132 download.windowsupdate.com
Save and close.
Try the update process again.
It worked for me.
I TRIED IT AND ITS WORKING NOW!!!!!!

What if there is no file called Host in this folder?
Larry.
