Computer freezing up at times

WXP at times freezes up when I right click on
desktop/computer/explore. It appears at times not to see
my E Drive which is a zip drive. I end up rebooting my
computer several times before it sees the E Drive, the
next time I use it, it may or may not see the E Drive.
Sometimes it locks up just exploring my computer. Have
done a memory check and that okay, what else do I need to
do?

I currently use Win98se (have XP on order & thus browsing here)
and have had similar situation a few times.

Running scandisk & then defragging my hard drive seemed to cure the
problem. Is it worth a try???
