I can write files to my compact Disc rewriter but cannot
overwrite the files whenever I want to save changes. The
message Read Only comes back. I therefore have to erase
the old files and write back the new files. This is very
cumbersome. here must be a way to overwite the saved
files like I can do on floppy.
I have tried to use properties and untick the read only
box but this does not seem to work.
Can anyone tell me what I am dong wrong.

XP's built in recording software is "mastering software" similar to that
used by Easy CD Creator, Nero, RecordNow Max, etc. You will need to use
"packet writing" software to do what you want to do. Packet writing software
will pre-format a CD-R/W essentially causing it to behave much like a giant
floppy or small hard drive. Popular packet writing applications include
Direct CD (now called Drag n Drop) that ships with Easy CD Creator from
www.roxio.com, InCD which is distributed by www.nero.com and DLA that ships
with RecordNow Max from www.stompinc.com
To learn more about CD Burning in XP check out Alex Nichol's site which is
