The following string is from a solution to a problem byWill Denny courtesy
of Doug Knox. I used the utility and it worked as needed to change the
System Properties shown in My Computer. However, there is still an anomaly
that I cannot correct.
In Windows Explorer, in the path C:\Documents and Settings, there is a
system folder showing the name of my previous registration name before I ran
the above-mentioned utility. Windows Explorer never made the name change
shown in System Properties in My Computer.
Now I just installed some new software and Windows has created a second
user's folder which now has the registration name I want to use, the same
one shown now on System Properties in My Computer. I cannot simply rename
the folder, as get the message, "(folder name) is a Windows system folder
and is required for Windows to run properly. I cannot be removed or
replaced."
So it seems that everything installed on the system which made entries into
this system folder prior to changing the registration name is located in the
folder with the original name and now any software that creates folders in
the user's directory will now go to the new name. It's no big deal, but
something that just causes more confusion with the location of items created
at different times in the history of the system. I can uninstall the recent
program to get it out of the new registration name folder if there is a way
to rename the old folder with the original name to this new registration
name and then reinstall and then everything will be in one place as it
should be.
Hope I haven't presented this in too confusing a manner and appreciate any
suggestions.
Another peculiarity I have noticed is that Windows Explorer will often list
the contents of a folder in the left pane showing a "=" by every folder,
even if they do not contain subfolders. Then if click up in the directory
path and back again, it will often display folder contents correctly. Anyone
else ever notice something like this?
