I have Windows XP home edition and I'm the only one that use this computer I
live here alone. Do I really need a password I was told to keep the
password on my computer for security reasons. Please let me know if I need
a password.

If someone breaks in to your home and steals your computer, the password
might slow them down and they won't bother looking for personal info like
credit card numbers etc. Usually they will just try to sell the hardware.

If someone truly wants to get into your info, the Windows password is very
easy to bypass, for anyone willing to do a few minutes of Internet research.
It is not designed for a high level of security (for the record, it's just
as easy to break into Linux or just about any other operating system if you
have physical access to the system.)
