Restore is not reliable program. If you're using as a
back-up you should consider something else.

You can turn it off from Control Panel > System > and
then> re-boot and it will purge it's file. Then re-boot,
turn> it back on.

And try this if the above does not work.

1. Put the in the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start , Run
3. Type the following then OK

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

You can also open Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Windows\Inf folder and right-click sr.inf (Then
Install)

Toshiba laptop. It stopped functioning because of an
mechanical problem which is to be fixed. Totally
unrelated to that I decided to do a system restore as a
piece of software was playing up. The system restore
appeared to freeze and, stupidly I know, I turned the
machine off. When it restarted it didn't resume the
restore and the system restore no longer works, just
opens it's white screen and sits there doing nothing.
The help and support doesn't open either!

instructions (on another machine's help and support page)
for restoring the registry makes no sense.

System Restore is not a cure for all problems, and is certainly
not a substitute for a backup. But it is a very useful feature,
one that has gotten me and many others out of trouble many times.

To even suggest that it could be used as a backup program shows
that you have no idea of what it does.

That would be a foolish thing to do.

When did I say that I was using system restore as a back-up? I was using as intended by Microsoft. Very impressive for a MVP, you did not even bother to address my problem, just wanted to see your name in print. I thought this forum was to help people,
if you cannot provide positive comment then please don't bother replying.
