Deleting E-mail

Hi:
I know everyone can answer this, bu I am unable to in the
tutorials or help.
When I click on an E-mail, it automatically highlights and
opens, possibly exposing my computer to viruses.
How do I do it differently. Also it is a divided page,
with mail at the top and afteer highlighting the mail is a
half page. Is there a different way.
This is a new Gateway, and I am used to the old Compac.

Thelma,
Open Outlook Express (if that's what you're using), click 'view' then
'layout' then uncheck
the 'show preview pane' option.
