I have just got a new box with xp installed. I want to
activate it so I can get the latest updates. I did the
registration but cannot find a link or phone # for the
activate. I tried the WIndow updates but it stopped about
half thru. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

If the PC came with XP already installed it is probably already activated,
nothing for you to do. To verify if windows is activated, enter the
following command in the Start, Run box and click OK:

%windir%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

This will bring up the Activate Windows screen where you can either
activate, or if Windows is already activated it will state as such on the
screen.

Hi,

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

Open the windowsupdate.log file in the C:\Windows, scroll to the bottom and
look at the recent error codes. You can research them at the above link.

If you cannot see the .log file, go to the control panel/folder options/view
tab and enable the options to see hidden and system files.
