I asked about this change on a previous post and was referered to this link:

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html#Remove

Looked over the link and came up with some questions before proceeding.
First oof, my computer currently is set up wiht 98 on C: which is it's on
physical HD, then XP was loaded afterwards for the dual boot on D: which is
also it's on seperate HD. After looking at this link I am a bit confused as
to which route because it gives you two methods. What I ultimately want to
have is for XP to be left alone and on the drive it is on. I do want to
completely remove 98se as well as formating that entire physical drive too
and then be able to use it as a data drive for XP. After looking at this
link, can someone tell me exactly what I need to do? Looks like there may be
2 ways to do this, but I just do NOT want to mess anything up. Could I just
change the boot.ini and format the C: drive? Or is there more involved?
Thanks and if I can return the favor let me know.

Hi,

When you installed WinXP, it placed boot files on the root of the boot
drive. C:\ is the boot drive, so you cannot format C, you can only delete
the Win98 system files. Formatting would leave the system unbootable, and
you would need to run fixboot from the CD's recovery console to fix it (and
it would still place the boot files on the C drive).

Simply boot WinXP, delete the Win98 system folders from Windows Explorer.
Then, start/run C:\boot.ini and remove the line referencing that system from
the [operating systems] section.

To rename D as C and move the active boot point would require that you do a
repair installation of the XP system after physically changing the drives or
jumpers.
