messenger

can someone please tell me how to get rid of this
program, it came installed on my computer and i have
tried everything that i know to do to delete this program
but it just won't go away. it is begining to annoy me to
death. please help me if u can. thanks

I suppose you don't want to use MSN Messenger anymore? it's really a nice instant messenger.

To remove it go to Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs. Then on the left panel, click on Add/Remove Windows components. You should see MSN Messenger on there. Uncheck it and then click ok.

Which version of windows are you using? You can go to gpedit.msc, use it from the run command. In there there is an option to not run messenger at startup and not to allow messenger to open. Check both options*enable....disable?*. And then you can dele
te messenger folder. Though outlook express may not work.

To correctly remove Microsoft Messenger 4.x (based on normal install of XP) do this:

- Add or Remove Programs | Add/Remove Windows Components | uncheck Messenger

- also run the following command if you have installed XP Service Pack 1:
Start button | Run | type "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove"
Just click OK if any error pops up, then you will see a progress bar appear shortly as it deletes its files and it will then ask you to reboot. After the reboot the program will be gone.

using the install/uninstall utility only removes shortcuts too messenger but leaves the actual program in My Programs. It can even still be ran.
