is all your hardware xp compatible?
have you removed all the pci devices and all but one
stick of ram and cdrom and one hard drive?

have you updates all drivers and motherboard drivers and
peripherals devices and updated the bios?

ran virus scans with latest definitions?
downloaded and ran spyware removers?

removed all hardware peripherals other than keyboard
monitor and mouse?

tested safemode and safe mode with networking?

clean boot tshooting?

disabling nonessential devices in device manager?

defrag,disk cleanup?

checkdisk in recovery console?

finally replaced each essential hardware one at a time
till the problem goes away?

have you really done everything?

I have defrag, scan virus and spyware, disk clean up and I used the adware program. I have deleted temp files and cache files. My puter is only 6 months old and have been using the same optical mouse with it by logitech. It just started the past few days
doing this and I have deleted programs I downloaded to see if that was the problem. I even optimized my drive. I have updated all drives for my puter and for the mouse as well... I use XP Home Edition. UNDER performace, It just froze and no high spiked o
n the usage history CPU. I have a AMD Athlon 2400_, 2.01 GHZ, 512 oMB of Ram. its a Cicero computer. and havent had problems with anything until now. I still don't understand whats going on. So what am I missing then???

First thing to do is run the hard drive utility tool to see if your hard
drive is ok

Hi, Brady. Since I don't have any information about your system specs,
this has to be a generic answer. To test your hard drive, you need to
determine the make. If you don't know the make, it will appear in the
BIOS or you can open the computer and look at the drive, or look in
your manuals. Then you go to the drive mftr.'s website and download a
free diagnostic utility. Obviously, you will need to do this on a
working computer! Once you've downloaded this small file, you will
double-click on it to start the program that will make a bootable
floppy. Take this floppy to your sick computer and boot with it. If the
computer will not boot from the floppy drive (A:), set it to do so from
within the BIOS. Assuming you can boot from the floppy, the diagnostic
program will start - choose the full scan. If the drive shows any
errors, it should be replaced.

HTH,

Malke
