I would like to know what to do when I get a text balloon
in my taskbar saying "This or that file:corrupted file,
please run the chkdsk utility".
I usually run it from Start->Run->chkdsk /f and then
reboot as it tells me it can't go ahead but will do a
chkdsk at next startup,is that the right way to do it?
Also, running chkdsk never seems to repair the corrupte
file as after that I usually have the "c:\windows\system32
\config\system is missing or corrupt" syndrome.
TIA,
Frankie.

I have a saved post on that problem:

To fix the "windows\system32\config\system file is missing or corrupt"
where Xp wont boot:

Go to Recovery Console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit
