You have the 32-bit version of Windows XP. The 64-bit version is
only commercially available for very expensive, high-end Itanium =
processors.

If you have Windows XP Professional it is 32-bit.

Only Windows XP 64-bit Edition is 64-bit

You do what you should have done before posting - you search the group(s) to
see if anyone might conceivably have had a similar problem. Had you done so,
you'd have found at least 5,000 answers to your question - please visit the
first link in my signature for answers to this - and all other - FAQs.

Hey Mike... seeing as SOOOO many people have been asking this question,
wouldn't it be a good idea to update the page the patch is downloaded from
to tell people how to tell which version they need? :)

I think we may already be doing that.

Certainnly http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp
Now has the link
Windows XP (32 bit) Most customers have this edition

64-bit is now only mentioned at the bottom

and the original MS03-026 page
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823980
now has
Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition
Download the 823980 package now.

Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2002
Download the 823980 package now.

Which clearly denotes Windows XP Professional and Home and then separately
the Windows XP 64-bit Edition.
The clue is in the product name :-)

Well there's a start, but don't forget the average user mentality... If
there's more than 1 choice, they get confused unless it's all in bug
colourful tellytubbie letters... :) (No offence intended to the average user
here!)

You would not believe the amount of user hand-holding I have to do as a
developer.... :-(
