Help needed with print spooler service

I just got a new lexmark X1150 all in one printer and the
scanner and everything is doing it's job, but the printer
isn't working... i've tried over and over again to print
but every time i try to it says that the print spooler
service isn't running... what does that mean, and what is
the print spooler service??? Help asap plz... thanks

From the command prompt, type

net start spooler

(and hit enter)
