Hi,
System tray doesn't hide inactive icons after I have had to re-install xp.
hide inactive icons is ticked in properties.
Any suggestions

Try this procedure:
Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe)
Goto this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\TrayNo
tify]
Delete the two keys namely - "IconStreams" & "PastIconsStream"
Restart Windows.

You may check if the EnableAutoTray entry is enabled.

Does it happen to a single profile? If so, create another user profile and
copy the user data to it. Refer MSKB:
