View Full Version : defaults for opening files

It used to be that if I double-clicked a folder in My
Documents that it would open the folder to show me the
contents. Now, it doesn't do that. It opens a search
window instead. Maybe it changed after one of those fine
windows updates? Before, if I right-clicked the folder,
the 1st choice (listed in bold) was OPEN. Now, the first
choice listed is SEARCH (in bold), then Open is listed
below (not bold as it is not the default).
How do I change this default setting? I've looked high
and low for the answer, but to no avail.
Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Usually this gets banged by a tweaking program or by trying to change the
default icon for folders. MVP Doug Knox has a fix for this at his website:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_folder_open.htm

NOTE: This file is a script (VBS). Your antivirus program may warn you about
it. Tell it to ignore. You can open any VBS file with Notepad to view its
contents before using it. To use the VBS file, double click on it.
