Wiping a hard drive

Can't find a way of deleting one hard drive from another
in XPpro. During a re-install of XP pro from Drive "D"
the deletion and re-format of Drive "C" is not allowed.

Advice welcomed

The C: drive holds the boot.ini file. So, dont format the C: drive.
