View Full Version : Viruses. How can you tell

if you've caught one? Recently a couple of CD ripper and burner
programs have stopped working, and I don't know why. My e-mail still
works, but not all the hyperlinks work.
As you might guess, I don't know much about this subject. In fact, I
don't know much about computers--period.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Norman,
Hyperlinks in emails wont work? Download iefix.exe from here. it
re-registers the dlls and fixes the situation:

As for the CD burner problem, please post back with more information.

Greetings --
You install and use anti-virus software, of course. ;-}
List of Antivirus Software Vendors
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;49500
For an immediate test, try using one or more of these free on-line
virus scanners:
Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
McAfee Security - FreeScan
http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp
Symantec Security Check
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp
For a free antivirus application, you might try AVG from
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php. Many people recommend it, but
I haven't tried it, myself. (I'm somewhat old fashioned; I learned a
long time ago that "You get what you pay for," and that "freebies"
almost always have some kind of hidden cost.)
