Crumbs, you're lucky! I have exactly the opposite
problem. When I connect to the internet my modem doesn't
stop making a noise. I've done all the checks I can
think of to no avail. Can anyone help please!?

Check Brand and type of your soundcard within Device Manager.
Go to the site of the soundcards manufacturer.
Download and install the latest driver for your soundcard.
