View Full Version : CPU Usage

I have Windows XP home. Everything was going ok until last night.

When I try to open My Computer or Control Panel from my start menu or
folders from my desktop the PC hangs and when I check the processes explorer
seems to be using 99 CPU usage.

I have restarted my PC in safe mode and everything seems to be ok.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

PS - I have tried a system restore but the same thing is happening.

Your help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Simon

Youve scanned yr sys with a current AV?
Yr Firewall is activated?
Checked for spyware; Adaware www.lavasoft.de download, update and run.

I have run my AV and there are no viruses and Pest Patrol tells me that
there is no adware.

Any more ideas?

Wondering if you've fixed this problem. I'm have axactly
the same issue. I've run ADaware it finds 1 or 2 spyware,
I delete them but it doesn't fix the problem. I've also
run an AV (not sue if its the latest)and it too doesn't
fix the problem. Have you had any luck????

Tony: Run both AdAware and Spybot, also make sure your AV definition files
are up to date, do a full scan. Also, some virus removals require you to
turn off system restore, reboot and then turn on system restore again.
