View Full Version : How do I tell which Windows XP MCE version I have

DELL claims to have shipped my system with Windows XP MCE
2004. I obviously have the MCE, but when I right-
click "My Computer," I get "2002, SP-1". I cannot find a
reference to MCE 2004 anywhere in the help file, nor can
I find info on how to determine what version I have on
the Microsoft site.

So, how do I know? I think I have the original version...

Hi, it will say it in the Online Spotlight in the main menu of MCE.

Well, I certainly can't complain about a slow response
here, Chris; thanks!

When I hover over "Spotlight," there's nothing to
indicate a unique version (such as a "2004" reference);
when I click on Spotlight, and enter that submenu system,
again--no version reference. I assume that means
I don't have the 2004 version--but am I right?

Or, I guess I could look in the HELP, search for VERSION,
and read the following:

Find out what version of Media Center you have
If you have contacted technical support, you might need
to find out what version of Media Center you are running.

Press the START button on the remote, and then select
Settings.
Select General.
Select About Media Center.

I have 2004; and I'm good to go.

I guess it was a case of RTFM for me!

Thanks for your quick response (I find that 3/4 of the
time when I contact Tech Support, it just winds up
galvanizing me to do the right & simple thing to solve my
own problem!)
