DNS: Domain Name Scheme.
ie., If you give www.google.com the web browser will not search the net for
www.google.com rather it will search the equivalent IP for this site. The
equivalent IP is 216.239.57.99. This technique is called address
resolution.
This map information is stored in a database called DNS server. If there is
a problem with the DNS server then you may not be able browse the internet.
To check whether the DNS server is up and running. Use the command nslookup
at the command prompt. Also, use the ping command to check whether you can
ping to any site. If the DNS problem persists then you have to contact your
ISP.
