Hi everyone
I have a annoying problem and it is this I placed a audio cd into my cd rom
drive but it would not play it.When clicked on the desktop icon for the
drive, it asked for disk to be inserted and I found out it was not just
audio but any disk I put in. I've checked in device manager and everything
checks out ok no problems I then went into trouble-shooter and went on one
of the suggestions and that was to uninstall the drive, which I did on
reboot it then reinstalled the drive and hey presto its was working fine.
But the next time I switched on the computer and tried to play a audio cd or
any other type of cd, the same problem again will not read the cd.I have
also a rewriter and it does the same thing if I uninstall restall its ok
until I next use the computer. I keep my comp well uptodate with all the
latest updates i.e. Hardware, software, security exc.servicepacks including
the latest win media player 9 series. any help please thanx.

Hi Steve,

Have you tried a CD lens cleaner yet? You may simply have a dirty player,
especially if the drive appears to spin up when a disk is inserted, then
nothing happens.

Hi ya Rick
When you place a disc in, it does not spin up even if you click the icon for
the drive. It will ask for you to put disk into drive even though it as it
already in. This is telling me possibility its a driver problem, that's why
I try the uninstall of the device reboot let windows find the device which
it does and it is ok but the next time I come to switch on the comp it
again, it as the problem it will not read the cd. In the device manager it
shows no problem and that it is working correctly, I did try your suggestion
by putting in a lens cleaner disc the tray works ok but it will not spin up,
as well as cd rom it also occurs with my cd rewriter same problem. I do not
know what else to try.

Hi ya Rick
I think I have sorted it, at the moment it seams to be ok, the more I tried
different ways to rectify the problem the more I was convinced it was a
software conflict. as I have said I try to keep upto date with the latest
updates and one of those is easy cd creator so I uninstalled cd creator
platinum 5 and then reinstalled minus the last two updates, those being
driveup support f, h. Whether it is that, only time will tell thanx for the
suggestions Rick. I will let you know if it is not.
