An error (unable to start lsass.exe) popped up from
nowhere on Saturday 1/31. My Win XP Professionalhad been
running just fine that morning. I'm unable to find a
reference to this executable in documentation.

Symptoms: System begins to boot as normal, displays the
Windows XP logo after the start-up menu, then gives this
error. Clearing the error message leaves just s dark blue
video field. Pressing F8 to get into safemode, yields the
same results.Attempts to strat in "safemode" or "last good
configuration" results in thesame. Finaly, I tried in "set-
up" for CMOS, use fail-safe defaults. No luck there
either. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Unfortunately, this error is a killer. At this point, try a Repair
Install. If that doesn't work (and it never has for me, but you might
be Mr. Lucky), you really have to choice but to format and clean
install Windows. Here are links to information about both types of
installations:

Good luck,
