View Full Version : What else might cause an XP box to reboot for no apparent reason?

Saturday I got a panicky phone call from my mother - she thought she
had lost 3 hours work on a major order to a supplier and was close to
tears. Naturally she had forgotten to save her document....

Anyhow, in the course of recovery her machine rebooted for no apparent
reason. I *believe* her anti-virus definitions etc. and saw no sign of
the message one expects of the Blaster worm.

Anything else it could be? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

She DOES have something dodgy with her Office XP installation which
tells her to load her Office XP Standard disk - but Word and Excel
work fine if you simply cancel the message. This was going on long
before the Blaster thing so I don't believe it's related...

See "Windows XP Restarts Unexpectedly or Restarts When You Shut Down
the Computer" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320299).
